The Xbox 360, revisions S and E, operate on 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz networks and won't be able to find your network if your router is set to operate in 5GHz only mode. For the original version of the Xbox 360, you'll need an external Wi-Fi adapter for wireless connectivity.
The built-in wi-fi on XBOX360 models that have that feature does uses only the 2.4ghz spectrum. I have read reports that the black XBOX 360 N adaptor does support 5ghz but I find that quite dubious since mine clearly does not and I found no product literature that says otherwise when I searched.
